Mark Making
Mark Making is about using your creativity in merging the different marks into your drawing for enhancing the final look.
Spent around 30 minutes to go through this mark making exercises to understand the pencil and the effects generated as well as types of marks using different pencils. While going through some YouTube videos, it look easy, but when your're really at it, it's really not. I was rather amazed how scribbling and doodling could produce different effects on your drawing.
Before start, here are some points to keep in mind. I've faced some problem while trying out due to the following which gave me different result than expected.
Here are the Mark Making exercises which I have tried with types of marks and shading with hard and soft pencils.

Before start, here are some points to keep in mind. I've faced some problem while trying out due to the following which gave me different result than expected.
Keep Pencils Sharp
Keep it sharp at all times to achieve better lines. May think blunt is useful but we can change to softer pencils rather than wasting efforts.Use Variety of Lines
Vary the weight of the lines either by pressing harder or lift to soften. Play around more to understand the pencil and the effects that will be achieved.
Achieve Even Shading
Work back and forth to achieve shading effects starting from a spot and varying it from time. Keep a swatch of the pencil shades to help on the types needed. Whether to darken or to lighten. Circular motion may help in the shades instead of using only back and forth motion.
Control Mark Directions
Use different mark / motions to control the shades. Form marks using two contrasting directions rather than following arm motion. This will create a different look / energy in the drawing.
